How to Use a Resume Example Properly
An example is most useful as a structural reference, not a script. Copy how the achievements are phrased and where the information sits, then replace every word with your own. Recruiters read hundreds of resumes and recognise copied phrasing quickly, and anything you cannot speak to in detail becomes a problem in the first interview.
What to actually take from these
- The bullet shape. Each one starts with a strong past-tense verb and closes with a measurable result. That pattern works in every field.
- The vocabulary. Each example uses the terms that field's applicant tracking systems screen for. Mirror the ones that genuinely apply to you.
- What gets left out. Notice there is no objective statement, no photo on the US-style samples, no list of hobbies and no "references available on request". Purdue University's writing lab keeps a well-regarded guide to job search writing if you want a second opinion on conventions.
- The order. Most fields lead with experience. Recent graduates and career changers are the main exceptions, where education or a skills block moves up.
If you do not have impressive numbers
Most people have more than they think. Volume counts: patients per shift, tickets per day, covers per service, invoices processed, students taught. So does time saved, error rate, retention, repeat business and anything you did faster or more accurately than the previous approach. A defensible estimate is far better than leaving a bullet with no evidence in it — just be sure you can explain how you arrived at it.
Then tailor it for each application
The single highest-return thing you can do is match your wording to the posting in front of you. Pull the tools, certifications and job titles it names and make sure the true ones appear in your resume. Our free ATS checker compares your resume against any job description and lists exactly what is missing.
Resume Example Questions
Are these real resumes?
They are realistic samples written for each role rather than copies of anyone's actual resume. The names and employers are fictional, but the structure, the phrasing and the type of achievement shown are what hiring managers in that field genuinely expect to see.
Can I copy one of these examples?
Copy the structure and the way achievements are phrased, but never the content itself. A resume that describes work you did not do falls apart in the first interview. Use the example to see what a strong bullet looks like, then write yours the same way with your own numbers.
Why does every bullet have a number in it?
Because that is what separates a resume that gets a callback from one that does not. "Responsible for social media" describes a job title; "grew engagement 47% in six months" describes a person worth interviewing. If you do not know your exact figures, a reasonable estimate you can defend is far better than nothing.
Which template should I use for my job?
Each example is shown in a template that suits that field, and you can switch at any time. As a rule, use a single-column ATS-safe layout when applying through a company careers portal, and save the creative designs for direct applications where a human opens the file first.
Is the builder free to use?
Yes, all of it. All 72 templates, all 8 colours, the editor, the ATS checker, the cover letter builder and the PDF, Word and image downloads are free — no account, no email, no card, no trial and no watermark. Unlike most resume sites, there is no payment screen at the download step.
