Licences, credentials and exam status

No licence applies. The CFA charter is administered by CFA Institute across three examination levels with a work experience requirement and is most relevant where the role touches valuation or investments; the CMA suits corporate planning work. Vendor certifications for BI and planning tools, including the Microsoft PL-300 and Anaplan model builder levels, are real and verifiable. Candidate status should always be stated as such.

What a finance lead checks first

The first pass is a verification check. A finance lead is confirming your credential status and the systems you have worked in before weighing anything else, because both are facts that will be checked later anyway. Numbers about numbers

This is the one field where a resume without figures is disqualifying, because the work is figures. Give the size of what you handled — the balance sheet, the portfolio, the invoice volume, the spend — alongside the improvement you made to it. Accuracy and control results, such as a clean audit or a shortened close, count as achievements even though nothing grew.

Senior FP&A hiring almost always includes a modelling exercise or a case where you present findings to a business leader, because the job is judged on influence rather than output. Interviewers ask which decision your analysis changed and what you got wrong in a forecast. Employers running a planning system or BI platform screen for it explicitly, as migrating an analyst off spreadsheets mid-cycle is disruptive.

• Avoiding forecast accuracy figures, which reads as though there is nothing good to report
• Listing Excel skills at length while never naming a planning system or BI tool

State your credential exactly as it stands — licensed, candidate, or in progress with the parts passed. Finance employers verify, and vagueness here reads as evasion rather than modesty.
