EPA Section 608 is a legal requirement for refrigerant handling. NATE certification is voluntary but widely recognised as a service-side quality signal and is renewed periodically. Licensing for technicians and contractors varies by state, county and city, so state your jurisdiction and what you hold there instead of describing one state's rule as the standard.
How you actually get hired for this
Service hiring is diagnostic testing plus a temperament check. Expect scenario questions on a system that is not cooling, and to explain the readings that would separate a failed compressor from a restriction. Managers also read the commercial half of the role: maintenance agreement renewals, accurate invoicing and qualified replacement leads passed on. Comeback rate is tracked, so how you document a repair is part of the assessment.
What you built, at what scale, safely
Describe the work in the units the trade uses: square footage, linear feet, tonnage, service calls per day, machines run, crew size. Add safety record and callback rate if you have them, because on a job site those are worth as much as speed. If you have run a crew or trained apprentices, say so plainly — that is the difference between a hand and a lead.

Save the paragraph-style summary for one or two lines at most.
Moving up in this trade
Technician to senior or commercial technician, then service manager, technical trainer or sales engineer. Commercial and refrigeration work generally pays more and asks for controls and larger equipment experience.
