How to get a free NTN in 10 minutes

NTN means National Tax Number. It is free. If you register as a person (not a company), your NTN is your CNIC number.

What you need
  • Your CNIC (ID card) number and its issue date
  • A mobile number registered in your own name (FBR sends a code by SMS)
  • An email address you can open (FBR sends a code by email)

Steps on FBR IRIS

  1. Open iris.fbr.gov.pk and click Registration for Unregistered Person.
  2. Type your CNIC number, name, mobile number and email. Fill in the picture code and submit.
  3. FBR sends one code by SMS and one by email. Type both codes on the screen.
  4. You get your password (and a PIN) by SMS and email. Log in to IRIS with your CNIC number and this password.
  5. The registration form (Form 181) opens. Fill in your personal details and address. For your income source choose Business and add your shop or business name and address. Submit it.
  6. Done. You are now registered, and your NTN is your CNIC number.

Why it matters

Cash on DeliveryOnline payment
Income tax, active taxpayer2%1%
Income tax, no NTN / not active4%2%
Sales tax (everyone)2%1%

Example: on a Rs 4,500 COD sale, income tax is Rs 90 at 2% instead of Rs 180 at 4%. The 2% is your final income tax on that sale. To be on the Active Taxpayers List you also file your yearly income tax return on IRIS.

Only the Arbsbuy fee is ours. These taxes are government tax. They are cut on every platform and courier (Daraz, Facebook orders, your own website), and paid to FBR in your name. You get a tax certificate you can use in your own tax return.
